Volunteering at HAS in September 2018

M y internship at the Humane Animal Society has been extremely enlightening, to say the least. To be able to work for the welfare of animals has always been a passion of mine, and this internship was the most fulfilling experience of the kind I’d possibly experience. The past month has proven to be an experience of a lifetime, one in which I was able to contribute to the welfare of countless animals on a daily basis. From feeding, to exercising and even bathing them, all the activities that I actively took part in made me realise that the privileged life that I’m living can only prove to be worth it if I do good to those that need our help.

My work with the organisation has sensitised me towards several issues that it has been working to eradicate, such as the idea of buying a dog as compared to adopting one and also the widespread discrimination against females, which was evident given the alarming ratio of female to male dogs at the shelter. This internship has inspired me to advocate for the idea of adoption, and despite the fact that this time has come to an end, my dedication to the organisation and the causes it supports will always hold strong, wherever I go.

I am grateful to be given the opportunity to be a part of such a noble cause, and I will cherish this experience forever.
