R ichard isn’t your average street survivor — he’s got the face of a seasoned war general and the attitude to match. Rescued in the nick of time after what we can only suspect was a brutal act of abuse, Richard came to us battered, bruised, and utterly done with the world. A head injury had left him recumbent, and though his body was failing him, his eyes told us—loud and clear — that he didn’t want to give up!
He began to bounce back with fluids, round-the-clock care, and occasional stern talking-to (mostly about not biting the vet). He started growling again!
He’s not for the faint of heart. Richard is a long-haul kind of guy—he needs a patient, trauma-informed space where he can heal at his own grumbly pace. We’ll continue pampering him with love, supplements, and premium kibble until he decides to trust again.
Richard may not be a lap dog, but he can be a brooding, oddly comforting presence—like a grumpy grandpa who secretly slips you snacks when no one’s looking. Richard is now safe at our sanctuary, surrounded by a few trusted furry companions and finally breathing a little easier. He’s calmer, more at ease, and slowly finding comfort in routine and quiet corners.
He may not want belly rubs, but he certainly wouldn’t mind a full bowl and a soft blanket—things your virtual sponsorship could help provide.
All animals adopted from HAS are or will be sterilised for free at the ABC and Rescue Centre. It is mandatory and entirely free of cost for the adopter. Richard's sterilised.

Foster
The procedure for adopting or fostering an animal from HAS varies from animal to animal and from person to person, but the following steps are always involved one way or the other.
1. Let us know of your interest in whichever way suits you the best.
2. We will arrange for you to visit your preferred animal at their home at the Sanctuary or ABC and Rescue Centre.
3. We will discuss in person with you the practicalities of adopting/fostering an animal.
4. You will ensure that all your family members affected by the adoption/fostering are in agreement, and that they will do their best to promote the interests of the animal.
5. We will do a house visit to ensure that you and the animal would be comfortable living with each other there. If necessary, we will advise on ways to adjust the living quarters to suit the animal.
6. You will pick up the animal from its present location, or, if possible, we will drop the animal at your house.
7. You will bring the animal to the ABC and Rescue Centre for yearly free health check-ups that include vaccinations.
8. Should you experience any problems at any point in the life of the animal, you should never hesitate in contacting HAS.
