Ambika

Volunteering at HAS in October 2019

I am Ambika, an 11th standard student who interned at Humane Animal Society during the autumn holidays of 2019. I had interned at the shelter to have a look into the field of veterinary science, understanding its scope and setbacks in India. Also because I have empathy towards animals and love dogs very much.

I helped in cleaning the cages of the puppies very frequently as they used to dirty the cages as soon as we changed them. I helped with the dog’s skincare like washing the dogs which made me realise how much care needed to be given to the dogs with these skin infections. I even took some of these dogs for walks and some of the handicapped dogs on walking wheels. I remember taking Frank out for a walk and having me chase him while he explored the area. I felt so bad to see so many dogs that were handicapped, abandoned or paralysed and to imagine that there were many more out there on the roads suffering.
